Living with EDS, Dystonia, ADHD, and the challenges of peri-menopause (🤬) can be a whirlwind, but amidst the storm, meditation becomes my anchor. Join me on this reframing shift where the elements help guide me through pain flare-ups, bringing moments of peace and creative energy.

Introduction:

Living with chronic pain requires a unique approach to meditation. In this blog, I share my personal journey of using elemental meditation to find solace and resilience in the face of pain flare-ups. From water's fluid embrace to fire's energizing force, I've discovered a harmonious dance with the elements to bring peace within.

The Elemental Connection:

  • Water – Embracing Fluidity: Dive into the soothing depths of water meditation to channel fluidity and release tension. Whether you are taking a moment and finding a guided meditation on YouTube, which I love, or taking a moment and implementing some deep breathing and listening to ocean sounds, or rain, using that to “float away” can really help tap into those water elements, if you are just getting started. • Fire – Igniting Energy: Harness the fiery energy to invigorate the spirit and ease the burden of pain. Take a moment and gaze yourself into a meditative trance while staring into the dancing flame of a beautiful candle. Links to affiliate: [https://amzn.to/424Wjh7]

  • Earth – Grounding Presence: Ground yourself with an earth meditation, finding stability amidst the storm. Take a seat on the ground, if your body will allow it, or simply allow some part of your body to be in contact with the ground. This can be physically, or try to imagine your own “roots” sinking into the Earth as a way to connect and really become grounded. Links to affiliate: [https://amzn.to/3S02BKp]

  • Air – Breath work for Serenity: Explore breath work with air meditation to calm the mind and ease physical discomfort. I am always one to have a nice incense or scented candle around. There was a time in my life when I wasn't really able to, so now, there is ne’er a time I am without! Life is too short! Links to affiliate: [https://amzn.to/48BlkmJ]

Reiki and Mood Swings:

Discover the healing power of Reiki to navigate mood swings associated with chronic pain. Learn how incorporating Reiki into your daily routine can bring emotional balance and tranquility. For me, taking a moment and really feeling the healing energy of Reiki as it makes it’s way through my own, is amazing in and of itself, but feeling the difference, when I am hurting more so than usual, is truly wonderful in so many ways.

Creating a Sacred Space:

Transform your meditation space with scented candles and incense tailored to the element you're working with. Explore the affiliate links I listed above some creative ideas that can really help set the mood and space with intention while you start to dive into your practice.

Adapting Meditation Positions:

Recognizing that traditional seated positions may not always be feasible, find comfort and solace in alternative positions. Explore affiliate links for comfortable meditation accessories suitable for different physical needs. Utilize a bolster to get comfy, no matter what position you are in. Try a meditation chair, that allows to sit more comfortably, and provides that back support so many of us need. I know this one is my list! (https://amzn.to/3S02BKp)

Conclusion:

Meditation becomes a sanctuary, a proactive tool for finding peace within the chaos of chronic pain. Embrace the elements, breathe through the discomfort, and discover a path to productivity and creativity even in the midst of physical challenges. It’s not always easy, or possible. I have been going through my own particularly rough patch over the last week, which is why I haven’t posted despite trying to build my business. Sometimes, the pain is just too much, and that is okay, because, no matter what, my practice still helps to create that moment of solace in the midst of all the craziness that can be my body.
